Occupy, the Gezi park protests, as well as the revolutions and revolts across North Africa and West Asia: How are these struggles interlinked? And what are the shared challenges emancipatory politics face across national borders, all the way to Germany? Those are some of the questions we seek to address in a joint conference, for which you are cordially invited.

Across the globe, right-wing parties and movements are advancing. While Europe and the United States are still coping with these allegedly recent phenomena, authoritarianism and nationalism are nothing new in most parts of the world: be it China, India, or Turkey.
This restoration of authoritarianism is following upon years of upsurges and protests worldwide. The Occupy movement, the Gezi park protests, and the revolutions and revolts in many countries across North Africa and West Asia are powerful examples of how people are voicing their opposition towards social injustices and repressive regimes. However, especially in countries of the Global South, these protests have often been repressed violently.
How are these struggles interlinked? What are the shared challenges emancipatory politics face across national borders? In order to answer these and other questions, and to work on formulating new forms of international solidarity, we cordially invite you to the conference:
Connecting Resistances: Emancipatory Activism in West Asia/North Africa and Germany (28th September – 1st October, Berlin)
Bringing together activists from different countries in West Asia, North Africa and Germany, we will create a safe space for fertile and open discussion. Joined by experts from academia, media and politics, we hope this unique forum will provide new insights into the shared struggles of our time, all the while overcoming the paradigm of nation states.
The conference will be held in English and Arabic with simultaneous translations.

How to apply:
The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung will cover costs for the 45 participants as well as accommodation, meals, and transportation. To apply, please send us a letter of motivation (why do you want to participate at the conference? How you can get involved and share your expertise?) and your CV. Please send us your application (one single PDF document) by 31st of July. You can expect to hear back from us by mid-August.

في جميع أنحاء العالم، تحرز الأحزاب والحركات اليمينيّة تقدّمًا. بينما أوروبا والولايات المتحدة لا يزالان يتعاملان مع هذه الظاهرة المزعومة مأ خرّا، فإنّ الاستبدادية والقومية ليسا بأمر جديد في معظم أنحاء العالم.
عودة الاستبدادية هي عاقبة لسنوات من الانتفاضات والاحتجاجات في التي حدثت عالميًا. فحركة "احتلوا" ، واحتجاجات "حديقة غيزي" ، والثورات وعديد الثورات والانقلابات في العديد من الدول في شمال أفريقيا وغرب آسيا ، هي أمثلة قوية تثبت انّ الشعب يعبر على معارضته على الظلم الاجتماعي وعلى الأنظمة القمعية. لكن وخاصة في بلدان الجنوب، تمّ قمع هذه الاحتجاجات بطريقة عنيفة.
كيف تترابط هذه الصراعات؟ ما هي التحديات المشتركة التي تواجهها السياسة التحرّرية عبر الحدود الوطنية؟ بهدف الإجابة على هذه الأسئلة، والعمل على صياغة شكل جديد للتضامن الدولي، ندعوكم بحرارة إلى حضور هذا المؤتمر:
